Will the police give me information about someone if I can give them their bank account #?

I was ripped off through paypal - they say there's nothing they can do, or really that they've done everything required for this type of situation. I know the crook used a bank account to get the money out of the account - if I give that to the police or my lawyer can I track them down with their bank account #?????
