Can a Felony and Misdemeanor charge get dropped or dismissed without a lawyer?

This is a Domestic Violence Case between me and my fiance. One day things got out of control i sustained injuries to myself and i blamed my fiance for hitting me, i filled a police report he was arrested and bailed out by me on bond. The day after i felt really guilty for filling a police report on him so i went back to the police and filled another report saying i lied and i was angry because of the situation that happened, i was so out of it that day out of anger and frustration that i honestly didn't care about anything. Now....6 mo. later the DA wants to take the case and were stressed out cause i really don't want my fiance to get charged with something he didn't do. Were looking into if we really need to spend a lot of money on a lawyer...or if we can fight it on our own without spending so much money.The charges are a felony and a misdemeanor is there a way we can get the charges dismissed or lowered or some kind of a plea bargain without the lawyer or should i stick with the lawyer?
