Do you need a permit or license to legally own a taser in California?

And how old do you need to be to legally own one? I am a 17 year old girl and I currently own a taser since I live in a not so safe part of the city. I am moving to Los Angeles for college this fall and would really like to bring my taser with me since it's an unfamiliar city and I want to stay safe.
