Ok question about divorce?

Ok my boyfriend and his ex have been seperated almost a year and he has paid his lawyer off and everything in advance well she finally paid hers off yesterday and my boyfriends lawyer told him he should keep it low key that hes dateing even though she is too because he filed for divorce because she cheated on him and left him and the lawyer also said him and her might be monitored but im confused why would they be monitored instead of being granted their divorce already?
